Nationwide Children's Hospital Half Matathon Recap

So after a last minute sign up I was pumped and ready to go! I came home watched a Netflix documentary about running to get me pumped! From Fat to Finishline it was good! I made some minestrone soup for my pre race dinner, and snacked on banana and almond butter before bed. I set my alarm for 5:30 am!

I slept ok, getting a few times with the baby (the usual), and got up right before my alarm! I had a couple of shots of espresso and toast with almond butter and banana, and off I went!

Lesson #1plan ahead for parking, and definitely don't forget your wallet! Luckily a nice parking attendent let me in, and I had to get my husband to bring me money!

I got to the starting line right at 7:30, but I was in group d so I waited around for a bit, and began to get a bit nervous!

They started every group off with fireworks! And there was so many runners of all ages, races, abilities, and sizes. I don't know if it was the tiredness or my nerves, but the whole thing made me kind of emotional!

The weather was amazing and I just ran! I don't listen to music while I run, so I went without, and it was awesome to see all those runners and supporters! My husband and kids were cheering at mile 5, and it was awesome to see them! I gave them hugs, grabbed my parking money, and said "gotta run" like a dorky mom and kept going!

I was feeling good and knee I was able to run 8 miles! So I got to 8 grabbed some water, and just wung it from there. I just wanted to tell everyone "guys I've never run this far before" every mile after 8!

Mile 11 hurt it was uphill, but we were back downtown with great spectators! And I had almost did it! Mile 12 was down hill then I just put one foot on front of the other until I saw my sis at the finish! I did it! No walking. Here's my finish: 2:16:49, an average of 10:27 miles!

My First Half Marathon

So after a ridiculous amount of back and fourth I finally decided to do it! Yes I signed up for my first half marathon less than 24 hours before I was going to run it. I havn't run a race in about a decade until a recent 5k. My training had been hit or miss all summer, but I was feeling great my last few runs so I went for it! I went in with no expecting, no idea what time I would finish (or if I would finish), and I had never run more than eight miles, but what the hell I said! At the very least I will have the morning to myself! So one week later I am here to tell the tale. Here's my recap of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Half marathon.

Like I said for some reason I could not make the decision to sign up until the day before the race. While everyone was excited picking up their race packets and discussing their training and what energy gels they'd be using I was awkwardly wandering around trying to figure out where to sign up for the thing (hoping I still could). I wandered around for awhile somehow nearly signed myself up to give blood and get my kidneys checked, I found the Information desk. They had no idea if I could still sign up. So I'm stating to feel this was a crazy idea, but finally someone led me to registration where they let me sign up no problem. I signed some forms guessed my finish time 2 hours 30 minutes?? I guessed! And then i was off! I paid the big bucks so no way this cheap gal was backing out!
